The Grenadines
Our trip by tiny aeroplane to the Grenadines, where we sailed aboard Scaramouche , a 60-year-old wooden sailing boat which appeared
in one of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" films.
An early start on a 8-seat Britten Norman Islander from SVG Air that took us to the Grenadines, seen here parked at Union Island Airport.
On the way to the Grenadines. Some of the bays on the rougher, Atlantic side of Grenada.
We pass over the airstrip on Carriacou.
Descending over Union Island.
The rather scary approach to Union Island airport. There's a sharp ridge to get over just before the runway.
Approaching Scaramouche , which will take us around the Grenadines.
After a light breakfast, we're under sail towards Mayreau.
The first snorkelling stop at the end of the deserted beach of Saline Bay on Mayreau. I saw a Spiny Lobster among the rocks on the right.
The second snorkelling stop, in the Tobago Cays - a popular anchorage and, as you can see, a good place to kite-surf. We
snorkelled with lots of Green turtles and Southern stingrays, before having lunch on the boat.
Still at anchor in the Tobago Cays, looking back towards Mayreau and Union Island.
The third stop, at the swanky Palm Island resort, before sailing back to Union Island for the flight back to Grenada.
